Abstract

The results of this study show a deterioration in water quality downstream of the Váh River, under WWTP Hrboltová, sampling sites RK5 and RK6. Indicators such as COD, TDS, COND, S, SO42- Cl, NaCl and PO43- visibly growing under WWTP (RK5, RK6). This deterioration is mainly correlated with wastewater from the paper industry, which WWTP processes, but also partly wastewater from aglomeration. These substances are highly toxic to fauna and flora and thus also for humans to which they get through the food chain. The paper industry produces very toxic compounds – dioxins and furans that have carcinogenic effects. This water should not be used for irrigation, because soil contamination could occur.
