The Park Ranger Training Program is accredited by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board. This accreditation provides assurance that the program meets or exceeds a set of standards that have been collectively established by the federal law enforcement training community and the National Park Service.

The National Ranger Training Institute (NRTI) at Hocking College is one of the premier training centers for National Park Service approved Seasonal Officer Training. Since the early 1980's, we have been providing the highest quality training to hundreds of students, many of whom have gone on to find employment in the natural resources law enforcement and emergency services fields. Utilizing the finest instructors available and applying the most advanced training techniques possible, results in students who are well equipped for successful entry into the natural resources law enforcement field.

National Outdoor Leadership School - The Leader in Wilderness Education

We believe positive, ethical leaders change the world. Based on this belief, NOLS has, over the last 46 years, become the leader in wilderness education. Founded in 1965 by legendary mountaineer Paul Petzoldt, NOLS takes students of all ages on remote wilderness expeditions and teaches them technical outdoor skills, leadership, and environmental ethics. What NOLS teaches cannot be learned in a traditional classroom or on a city street. It takes practice to learn outdoor skills and time to develop leadership. The backcountry provides the ideal setting for this unique, experiential education—NOLS classrooms are some of the world’s wildest and most awe-inspiring locations. We believe living in untouched places like our classrooms will teach students responsibility for all that surrounds us.

The SLETP has a rich history at SRU and has been producing quality rangers for the past 30 years. The program has an extensive alumni base working in multiple agencies throughout the United States.  Many of our graduates are now Park Managers, Criminal Investigators, Chief Rangers, and even Park Superintendents. We are very proud of our alumni and hope our program is of interest to you.

The SUNY-ESF Ranger School in Wanakena, N.Y., offers students a unique educational experience in a spectacular natural setting. The school confers the associate in applied science degree. The A.A.S. degree can open doors to forest, natural resources conservation or land surveying technology careers, or it can serve as a hands-on, experience-based step toward a bachelor of science degree.

Park Rangers work to serve and protect a variety of types of reserves and parks as part of a sometimes large team to preserve the overall state of reserves, parks, waterways, and visitor facilities. Sometimes, park rangers also respond in emergency response situations and assist in park planning when required.

Southern African Wildlife College

The Southern African Wildlife College (SAWC) was conceptualized in 1993 and established in 1996 by the World Wide Fund for Nature, South Africa (WWF South Africa) in close cooperation with interested and affected parties in southern Africa, including national and provincial government departments, other conservation agencies and the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Through conservation education, training and skills development, the Southern African Wildlife College seeks to give protected area managers the motivation and skills they need to become partners in saving our continent's natural heritage. All training comprises theory as well as practical skills and has been developed in close collaboration with conservation agencies and, where relevant, community participation.

Slovak Rangers Association
Slovak Rangers Association (SRA) or Asociácia strážcov chránených území Slovenska (ASCHÚS) in Slovak is a voluntary association of nature conservation professionals employed by the State Nature Conservancy and volunteer rangers in the Slovak Republic. It closely co-operates with partner non-governmental and other organizations working in nature and landscape conservation, both at the national and international levels. SRA is a full member of the International Ranger Federation (IRF).

IRF

The International Ranger Federation (IRF) is a non-profit organization established to raise awareness of and support the critical work that the world’s park rangers do in conserving our natural and cultural heritage. Founded in 1992, the IRF has a membership of 60 ranger associations from 46 countries, on six of the seven continents. The role of the IRF is to empower rangers by supporting their national or state ranger organizations, or assisting in the establishment of local ranger associations in countries where they do not currently exist.
